A large, robust, pale grey funnel mushroom with a distinctive clouded centre, decurrent gills, and a thick, firm stipe. Often forms large troops or arcs in forest litter.

Cap: convex becoming plano‑convex, finally broadly funnel‑shaped. Surface smooth, moist, often darker grey in the centre, paler toward the margin. Margin inrolled when young, later wavy.
Gills: Crowded, decurrent, soft, pliant. Colour white to cream, sometimes slightly greyish with age.
Stipe: 50-120 x 10-25 mm, central, firm, fibrous, smooth, whitish to pale grey. Often slightly swollen toward the base.
Base: Stipe base slightly bulbous, white, frequently with adhering leaf litter or soil.
Colour: Cap cloud‑grey, smoky cream, or grey‑brown; gills white to cream; stipe whitish to pale grey; flesh white.
Size: Cap 60-150 mm; stipe 50-120 mm long.
Growth habit: Solitary, scattered, or forming large troops, arcs, or partial rings.
