A small, compact puffball characterised by small white spines in youth that disappear in age. A species that turns up on my front lawn from time to time after a rain during late summer.

Peridium: Up to 25 mm diameter, subglobose or pyriform, compressed below into a short, stem­like base. When young is white to pale buff as it matures, becoming brownish.
Exoperidium: White covered in white spines, to 0.5  mm long. With age, spines fall away, finely pubescent..
Endoperidium: Ochraceous to brown, thin and membranous. Opens by a small apical stoma, plane and torn. With a sterile base that occupies the short stem‑like portion, minutely cellular, sometimes rudimentary.
Gleba: Olivaceous, becoming powdery, Fine, pulverulent.
