A straw-yellow to ochraceous Inocybe with a distinct permanent umbo, a strongly rimose–crenate margin, and conspicuously nodulose spores. The pileus often splits into radiating spokes, making it one of the more recognisable New Zealand species under Nothofagus.

Pileus: Up to 40 mm diam. Conical to convex to plane, always with a distinct, permanent umbo. Straw‑yellow, ochraceous, yellow-beige, darker at centre. Smooth at umbo, fibrillose and rimose toward margin. Margin conspicuously splitting, crenate, forming wheel-spoke patterns (similar to Bolbitius vitellinus). Viscid when wet. Veil remnants absent.
Lamellae: Adnate to almost free, ventricose, crowded (L 18-24, l 1-3). Whitish to grey to brownish-beige. Edge white-fimbriate.
Stipe: 20-50 x 3-4 mm, cylindrical, equal. Base marginate-bulbous. White to yellowish-brownish, often with pink or reddish tints. Entire length pruinose, sometimes longitudinally striate. Dry, no veil remnants. Occurs single or in small groups.
Context: yellow beneath pileus cuticle, brownish-pink in stipe.
Odour/tast: Not distinctive
