A striking dark brown, coarsely squarrose-scaled Inocybe with a densely wool-fibrillose stipe and a persistent cortina. The tall, erect scales (to 5 mm) give the pileus a miniature strobiliform (cone-like) appearance. Found on rotting wood in Nothofagus forest.

Pileus: Up to 40 mm diam. Hemispherical to convex; no umbo or papilla. Brown. Densely covered with coarse, squarrose, concolorous scales, up to 5 mm high. Margin with brown fibrillose dentate cortina remnants. Dry.
Lamellae: Adnate to adnexed, densely crowded, not ventricose. Yellowish to yellow-beige to brown. Edge white-fimbriate.
Stipe: 35-60 x 5-7 mm, cylindrical, equal or slightly attenuated toward base. Brown. Densely covered with brown wool-like fibrils. Cortina conspicuous and persistent. Dry, solid. Occurs single or in groups.
Context: White in pileus, brown in stipe.
Odour/tast: Not distinctive
