A sessile, dimidiate, woody but brittle bracket fungus occurring on Nothofagus wood. Distinguished by its dark ferruginous to blackish cap, radiate striation, concentric sulcation, irregular angular pores, and abundant ventricose chestnut‑brown setae.

Basidiomata: Annual, sessile, dimidiate, firm and woody, though brittle. Forms applanate brackets when attached by a broad base, or effused-reflexed / conchate when attached narrowly; occasionally resupinate. Size 1.5-3.5 cm x 1.5-3 cm x 2-4 mm thick.
Hymenial Surface: Colour ferruginous, becoming umber. Surface even, fertile to the edge. Dissepiments toothed.
Pileus: Colour ferruginous, umber, or black, lighter peripherally. Surface radiately striate, concentrically sulcate, smooth and polished, except tomentose at the margin. Cuticle 25-100 µm thick, composed of densely arranged parallel hyphae cemented with mucilage; walls chestnut-brown, becoming thin, black, and shining in old specimens. Margin tan or bay-brown, acute, inturned, lobed, torn; in old specimens abrupt and concolorous.
Pores: Irregular, angular or linear, up to 2.5 mm deep. Colour ferruginous in section. Diameter 100-400 µm, or 2-5 per mm. Dissepiments 50-150 µm thick (most ~75 µm), equal, apex sometimes tapering, finely tomentose.
Context: Thickness 0.2-2 mm. Colour fulvous, becoming ferruginous. Composed of densely packed parallel brown hyphae. Generative hyphae ribbon-like, 5-7 µm thick, wall 0.5 µm, scantily septate except in the hymenium, sparsely branched.
