A rare grey-fuliginous waxgill with a glutinous opaque cap, distant adnate–emarginate lamellae, and a glutinous hollow stipe. Some Gliophorus species possess UV-labile pigments, and their colours may shift or fade as basidiomes age, particularly after exposure to sunlight.

Pileus: Up to 40 mm diam.; hemispherical when young, becoming convex, finally umbonate-expanded or campanulate. Colour grey to fuliginous, especially over the disc. Surface glutinous, opaque, membranaceous, and substriate at the margin.
Lamellae: 8-12 major lamellae with 1-5 tiers of lamellulae; rather distant, adnate to emarginate-adnexed, ventricose, up to 5 mm wide. Occasionally anastomosing. Colour white, later pale grey; edges concolorous, entire. Gelatinous thread absent.
Stipe: 25-50 x 2.5-4 mm, cylindrical, equal; pale grey, whitish at base. Surface glutinous. Fistulose to hollow. Veil remnants absent. Typically single.
Context: Whitish, brittle.
Odour/tast: Not distinctive.
