Fruitbody: Slender, erect, 30-45 mm tall. Fertile head dark brown to black, smooth, moist-shining, narrowly clavate to subcylindrical, typically 10-20 mm long. Apex rounded, not sharply pointed.
Stipe: lighter brown to chestnut, sometimes with a faint amber tone near the base, 3-4 mm thick, smooth, slightly viscid when fresh, gradually merging with the fertile head.
Texture: Fresh fruitbodies are glutinous or mucilaginous, especially on the stipe and lower head - a key feature of Glutinoglossum.
Odour/taste: no distinctive odour
