A small, yellow-brown Cortinarius with distinctive orange-red velar girdles on the stipe and an anthraquinone-positive veil. Uncommon but recognisable in New Zealand Nothofagus forest.

Cap: Dry, hygrophanous, 15-30 mm diam.; yellow‑brown with a deeper date‑brown centre, young fruitbodies wholly orange‑brown. Surface finely innate‑fibrillose. Margin orange‑brown to orange, distinctly striate when moist.
Lamellae: Yellow‑brown to orange‑brown, moderately crowded; edges concolorous.
Stipe: Cylindrical; pale yellow to brownish yellow, ornamented with sparse orange‑red velar girdles—a key diagnostic feature. Apex almost white.
Context: Pale yellow throughout.
Odour/taste: Not distinctive.
