A striking Persplendidi species with a black to dark‑brown disc, cinnabar‑orange lamellae, and a golden clavate stipe bearing a dark brown to black cortina. Lamellae turn orange‑ferruginous with age and react lilac‑blue in KOH. Known from New Zealand and Australia, always under Leptospermum.

Cap: 5-50 mm. Hemispherical to convex to broadly umbonate or obtusely campanulate. Disc black, black‑brown, or dark brown; margin yellow‑orange in mature specimens. Dry, radially fibrillose to minutely squamulose. Not hygrophanous, not striate, margin often splitting. No veil remnants on pileus. KOH on pileus: red‑brown.
Lamellae: 16-28, moderately crowded. Adnexed to emarginate to sinuate with short decurrent tooth in age. Brilliant orange, cinnabar red‑orange, brick red, becoming bright orange‑ferruginous. Edges concolorous, entire. KOH on lamellae: lilac‑blue.
Stipe: Up to 60 x 3-8 mm, clavate, subbulbous or fusoid (to 13 mm diam.), rarely cylindrical. Golden‑yellow to brass‑yellow. Base with yellow tomentum or rhizoids. Cortina dark brown to black, fibrillose or occasionally agglutinated/submembranous. Below ring zone: coarsely fibrillose or minutely squamulose. Dry, solid to hollow.
Context: Dark brown in pileus. Yellow‑orange in stipe.
Odour/taste: Not distinctive.
