Those who have been out in our New Zealand forest will have noticed how much our forests are dominated by ferns; from the tall tree ferns that soar above you, down to the small filmy ferns that grow on the forest floor. Hidden among these are other primitive plants known as fern allies, all of which are considered to be
cryptogams as they reproduce by
spores. In keeping with the theme of my site I have included photos and information on some of the more common fern and fern allies found in the Auckland region.
