Very similar to G. lilacinoides with just as wide a colour range often making this hard to identerfy.
Pileus -30 mm, hemispherical becoming convex to subumbonate, brown to red brown, darker at centre; fading to grey at margin, glutinous, margin striate, glabrous. Lamellae 8-12 (1-3) distant, adnate to subdecurrent; white, glutinous thread absent. Stipe 25-45 x 2-4 mm. cylindrical, attenuated towards apex and base; concolorous with pileus, yellow at base; glutinous, solid, single. Odour not distinctive. Taste not tired. Chemical reactions on pileus: KOH - yellow; HCl - negative.
SPORES: 8-9 x 4-5 µm., ovoid. Basidia not measured, 4-spored. Cystidia absent. Pileipellis an ixocutis of repent to suberect, cylindrical hyphae (2-4 µm. diam.); Clamp connections present. HABITAT: Rear; Scattered; saprobic on soil among litter in broadleaved-conifer forests (Agathis). June
