A small, pale hedgehog fungus similar to Hydnum crocidens with spathulate to reniform caps, creamy-white decurrent spines, and a lateral to eccentric stipe.

Cap: .7-45 mm diam., broadly spathulate, orbicular, or reniform. Colour pallid creamy white, often with faint shell-pink tints, becoming ochraceous or rusty brown in patches when overmature.
Gills: concolorous with pileus. Spines decurrent to deeply decurrent, to 5 mm long, crowded, pallid creamy white, darkening with age.
Stipe: lateral, or less frequently eccentric, 1-3 cm long, 3-5 mm diam.; colour matching pileus tones.
