These are small to medium size fungi normally growing on wood. Fruiting bodies are normally top shaped or cup shape, round or irregularly lobed.

With sixteen Chlorociboria species found in New Zealand, trying to identify one from another without a microscope is next to impossible, and even with one, it's not much easier. The wood stains green by this species was once prized for use in furniture making and inlay work.
