A small, dark brown, densely squamulose species with a brown fimbriate gill edge, a key diagnostic feature. The combination of a pulvinate to umbilicate cap, brown-pigmented cheilocystidia, and palisadoderm pileipellis distinguishes it from other brown New Zealand Entoloma.

Pileus: 10-30 mm diam., convex to pulvinate, later expanded with a depressed-umbilicate centre. Margin estriate and incurved. Dark brown, densely covered with concolorous to fuliginous small squamules, especially around the umbilicus. Dry, not hygrophanous.
Lamellae: (L 10-14, l 1-15) adnexed to adnate, never decurrent with a tooth. Grey when young, becoming pinkish-beige. Edges fimbriate and brown.
Stipe: 10-25 x 1.5-3 mm, cylindrical, grey-beige to light brown, white toward the base. Densely fibrillose, dry, fistulose, solitary.
Context: brownish.
