Buff-pink, peppery species with decurrent gills, short‑celled encrusted pileipellis, and relatively large weakly nodulose spores; under mixed trees in New Zealand.

Pileus: 40–80 mm diam. (occasionally larger), buff to sordid pink, matt, convex with a slightly to strongly depressed centre, often becoming broadly concave in age. Margin strongly down‑rolled.
Lamellae: decurrent, pale sordid pink, moderately crowded, with long and short lamellae intercalated.
Stipe: 30–40 (-70)× 10–15 mm, concolorous with the pileus, fibrillose to velvety, solid.
Context: concolorous, with a water‑soaked layer above the gills.
Odour/taste: mildly peppery when fresh, becoming strongly peppery when drying.
