A medium yellow-brown Phlegmacium of Nothofagus forest, recognised instantly by its strong naphthalene odour, viscous brown-yellow cap, and yellow-white stipe ornamented with brown-yellow squamules and a distinct annulus.

Cap: Exceeding 40 mm diam.; viscous, little or not hygrophanous; rounded then convex. Colour yellow‑brown, glabrous; margin paler, often with pale ochraceous fringes from the veil. Surface smooth, glutinous when moist.
Lamellae: Colour pale grey‑brown at first; crowded (L = 78, l = 2). Attachment narrowly emarginate; edges concolorous.
Stipe: 60 x 13 mm, attenuated downward; yellow‑white with brown‑yellow garlands and squamules on the lower portion. A distinct annulus present. Veil pale brown‑yellow, fairly copious; cortina grey‑white.
Context: Pale grey‑yellow.
Odour/taste: Odour strong, unmistakably naphthalene‑like. Taste slightly sweetish.
