A striking yellow-brown, glutinous variety of Cortinarius elaiochrous, distinguished by its warm yellow-brown cap with darker orange-brown disc, grey to yellow-grey lamellae, dark yellow stipe densely banded with brown-yellow squamules, and large, coarsely verrucose spores. Rare, but locally gregarious in Nothofagus forest.

Cap: 30-60 mm diam.; convex to plane. Surface glutinous, hygrophanous. Colour warm yellow‑brown, with a thick, darker orange‑brown gluten over the disc. Surface glabrous. Margin weakly striate.
Lamellae: Colour grey to yellowish‑grey. Rather distant. Attachment free. Edges concolorous.
Stipe: 25-80 x 6-10 mm; cylindrical, sometimes with a small rounded or piston‑like bulb (to 12 mm). Colour saturated dark yellow, apex paler. Densely coated with darker brown‑yellow squamules and tufts, forming zig‑zag bands along the entire length.
Veil: brownish‑yellow, copious.
Context: Flesh pale greyish‑tan to dirty yellow.
