A known species that has not been validly published, sometimes known as Amanita galerumgandalfi, Saproamanita galerumgandalfi, and Aspidella 'noddy. 'A unique Amanita distinguished by its long, narrow, curved umbo, unlike any other New Zealand species.

Cap: To 60 mm diameter, with a striking elongate, acute umbo reaching up to 35 mm long, often curved or bent. Surface fibrillose to squamulose, coloured cinnamon to sepia over a buff background. Umbo and disc typically darker than the margin.
Gills: Moderately crowded, free, white, bruising or ageing yellowish. Short gills present. Gill edge not distinctive.
Stipe: To 85 mm tall, subcylindrical. Apex white and floccose, darkening to ochreous. Lower stipe scabrous to floccose‑scaly, buff with ochreous volva remnants. Base white. Exannulate (no ring).
Volva: Present as ochreous patches or bands on the lower stipe. Volval tissue composed of large, inflated, cylindrical cells (95-187 x 14-41 µm), often in vertical chains a diagnostic feature placing the species in subsection Vittadinae of section Lepidella.
